Sushi – Gemini Starr & Why more women are entering the Biz

One of my all time favorite movies is the 1987 Wall Street. In this movie there is a scene between Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen wherein Douglas’s Character Gordon Gekko says to Bud Fox (Sheen):

If you’re not inside, you’re *outside*!

That fact has stuck with me all my life. It is a simple yet eloquent truth which applies to many situations. Whether you’re a member of Skull and Bones sipping cocktails at this years Bilderberg group or your one of the “uninvited” who wants to be invited.

(Which by the way who do I speak to about my lost invitation ?)

This truth applies to the Escort business as well, either you’re on the provider side or you’re a client. This is, as it is. It was this way before I came into this business and it will be this way when I leave. In the meantime time I get to form friendships and hang out with someone interesting Providers.

I was down in Owensboro, KY the other day with Mike from Fantasys Escorts as he was doing an orientation for a new girl and just so happen to catch up to our buddy Gemini Starr. Now I’ve known Gem for a few years and lately she’s made the short list of people in this business I love to “hang” with and besides she is also a Sushi & Sashimi Fanatic like me !!

Sushi Love Boart - I can eat one of these all by myselfOver a love boat Sushi / Sashimi combo and a full Tokkuri of Sake we talked about what else… the Biz.

One of the questions that came up is why are so many new women coming into the business these days? Well, an interesting question and from my prospective there are several valid reasons.

The first is, “The economy, stupid”. I don’t mean to sound like Chicken Little but lets look at the facts:

  • “..middle-income neighborhoods in the nation’s 100 largest metro areas have declined from 58 percent in 1970 to 41 percent in 2000. “ *source*

  • “American men in their 30s earn less than their fathers’ generation did at the same age, potentially reversing longtime assumptions that each successive generation will be better off than its predecessor, according to a study released Friday.” *source*

  • Even our friends to the north are not immune from this trend.
“In 1989, just over 52 per cent of Canadians had after-tax income defined as middle class. By 2004 the portion had dropped to 47.3 per cent, the study found. ” *source*

Secondly, the business has changed and women today simply can’t conceive that it used to be so violent and dangerous, its much kinder and gentler in many sectors now. Add to this the term “Escort”, a major departure from some of the terms that were formerly used. “Private Companion” and “Companion Services” are rising in preference because it appropriately implies what is really going on. It is a choice for companionship and it’s no ones business what the two or three of you are doing behind closed doors as long as it doesn’t end up affecting your ability to operate a 2-ton machine (read driving car).

Thirdly, has anyone noticed the American Dream has been hi-jacked?

I’m one of those people who firmly believe in a strong “Middle Class” and a broad sector economy is vital to our national security. When you have only very rich and very poor, historically it leads to the fall of nations and societies. I don’t know about you and I hate to sound corny yet as proud American Patriot the last thing I want see is this great nation go the way of “The great British Empire”. If I want to see “has beens” I’ll accept one of our Hollywood movie industry clients long standing invitation and fly out and party and subsequently rub elbows with C, D and F list actors.

Our morally and spiritualy compromised politicians gave corporation’s tax breaks to outsource American Jobs overseas so shareholders can get their rising returns at any cost.

“The American economy has seen an incredible shift over the past few decades. Eager to reduce costs, many companies have moved their factories abroad in order to minimize overhead and labor costs. They have found that relocating to places like India, Ireland and the Philippines has allowed them to take advantage of low-wage, highly educated workers. This enables them to simultaneously improve their profits.” *source*

Deal’s like NAFTA and other secret trade deals conspired to depress the wages of the average American worker. In short, were seeing more women in the business because they need to feed their families.

Which brings to light some interesting trends Mike at Fantasys and I have observed over the last couple of years about job applicants. We have found there is a direct correlation between social class, experience and education and the time of the year they apply.

From November to February is the highest percentages of applications from new ladies that have NEVER ever been involved with ANY adult business (Dreams women). March through April is when the experienced ladies apply (read starving Independents). Then in June – July all of the ex-strippers apply in droves. As with all things in this business there is a reason, a pattern and it does mean something. The trick is to accurately observe and quantify it.

So as you can see there is more to us than most of you know. There is this perception that being an Agency owner is glamourous and easy, Ah….. NO! For me this is a business and my career not some hobby. I think that’s one of the things I love about Gemini is the same work ethic applies to her as well. Besides every now and again I need someone I can out Sushi and Sake under the table. Hopefully this summer if the requests are there we’ll see about having her stop by for a week for some of you clients to meet with her.

Life is a road so be good to your follow travelers and walk in peace gentlemen.
